Series 142: The Space Watch

A milestone for Sinn happened in 1985 when the model 142 passed a unique endurance test. It was the first automatic chronograph in space, carried on the wrist of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Furrer during the first German Sapcelab mission D1. Until 1985 it was believed that only manual watches would function under zero gravity. A few months prior to the start of the D1 mission, Reinhard Furrer privately purchased a version of the 142 with a matt black, galvanised stainless steel case, because he knew about the quality of Sinn chronographs from his many years as a pilot. His Sinn 142 not only resolutely withstood the extreme conditions of the space shuttle, it also proved its functionality and suitablility for space in approximately 100 scientific experiments during the week-long mission. Proving once again that German engineering was at the forefront of development.

The 142 St II is a truly unique chronograph watch and features Sinn's special dehumidifying technology and age-resistant SuperLumiNova, luminescent paint on the markers. The space watch is immediately recognisable due to the motive of the D1 mission shown prominently on the dial. It is shown here in stainless steel with a special ‘Chronissimo' black leather band.
